The Gift

Some impatient blogger friend of mine wanted to know what the Christmas gift was from my step-daughter. Let's give you a little background. My step-daughter will be 17 very soon. From the day I met her when she was 6(ish) I always felt that she was born at the wrong time. She's more of a 70's girl. She knows just about every song from the 60's and 70's. She rivals my music knowledge.

For quite some time I've wanted to have a mother's ring with all 4 kids' birthstones in it. I've never voiced this wish to anyone because 2 of the 4 children are not mine. I didn't know how they would feel about it. I didn't want them to presume that I wanted to be their mother or take over the role of being their mother. I love my step-daughter and step-son as if they were my own. Still, I didn't want an assumption of arrogance.

For Christmas, my most beautiful step-daughter gave me this:

In one fell swoop, I was brought to my knees. Tears fell. She left me speechless. That's a difficult feat.

If you can't tell what this is, it's a necklace with 3 boy figures (two with gold caps on their head and one with silver) and a little girl with pigtails. Of course the little girl figure is LARGER than the boy figures. Like that shocks me.

Someday, with the blessing of my step-kids, I'll have my mother's ring with all four birthstones.

Ain't life grand?
